Success at Beckenham Development Meet! (July 2012)
Congratulations to Nathan Rodrigues and Chloe Waller who participated in the Beckenham Development Meet on Sunday, 8th July both taking part in the 50m backstroke, 100m IM, 50m freestyle and 200m freestyle. Nathan picked up two bronzes, a silver and a gold medal in his races respectively; whilst Chloe managed a 5th, 6th and 4th place ribbons in her races and breaking two of her PBs. This was against strong opposition in Kent from top clubs such as Beckenham, Ojays, Bromley, Sevenoaks, etc. A big well done to both swimmers!

Demi's Biathlon Triumph! (July 2012)
Demi Farrow, aged 8, took part in the 7oaks Tri Club junior Aquathlon in Tonbridge (training ground to Kelly Holmes) on Sunday, 8th July. She was one of 227 competitors who braved the torrential rain to complete a swim, change into trainers and t-shirt to go straight into a run (50m swim and 600m run for her age group). Despite a slow transition, not being able to find her bag and then trying to put socks on wet feet she stormed to the finish line drenched in mud to record not only the fastest swim but also the fastest run of the girls in her age group. Her tactic of taking it fairly easy in the swim to save it for the run paid off! She was the overall winner, beating girls from local swimming and athletics clubs.

Success at the Kent Masters for Jim! (June 2012)
Jim Melvin who trains with the top squad for his medal haul at Kent Masters Championships. Jim has trained very hard and as a direct result won 4 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals and broke several Kent records. A massive achievement! Just goes to show if you have some raw ability, and are willing to train very hard what you can achieve.

Thorpe Park Visit (May 2012)
Although we still would like to organize this event, unfortunately and as some of you have told me over the last few days, the weather hasn't been great for a day out. The intention is that this event will go ahead some time this summer.

Club Championship Rules 2012

The dates for Club Champs 2012 are as follows:

7th March
20th June
19th September
12th December

Warm up 18.00 hrs for 18.30 start. There are no training sessions on these dates.

Entries for our first club champs of this year (7th March) can be made with Linda in the cafe from 8th February onwards.

The committee and coaches have decided to change the criteria for the overall trophies for this year's club champs.

Everyone who swims in a race will receive 1 point, in addition the 1st placed swimmer will receive 6 points, going down to 1 point for 6th place. The winner will therefore receive 7 points. At the end of the year trophies will be awarded for the overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed boy or girl in each age group based on points. These trophies will be presented at the annual club presentation evening.

Trophies will no longer be given at the awards evening for induvidual wins as we feel these swimmers will have already been rewarded with a medal at the time of the race.

We hope this change will encourage more swimmers to "have a go" in all events as 1 point could make all the difference to the leaderboard! It will also recognise the achievements of more swimmers.

There will of course still be trophies for overall senior and junior top boy and girl. If you have any queries please ask a member of the committee.

WOSC Awards Presentation Evening

The annual WOSC Awards Presentation Evening was held on Friday 27th January 2012. There was a good turnout with swimmers from all the squads and their families joining in and having a fun time together.

A big thank you to all the parents and children who stayed behind and helped with the clean up, enabling us to finish in record time. We look forward to seeing even more of you next year.

Junior Top Boy: Ethan Parker
Junior Top Girl: Maddeline Wesley
Senior Top Boy: Charlie Geary
Senior Top Girl: Millie Bach
